Glasnaya is a social media project which fights gender stereotypes.
Stereotypes still determine the role of women in our society. These stereotypes are handed down from generation to generation and imposed on us from childhood. Women should not spend their whole life trying to match others’ ideas of what it means to be a woman. They should not betray themselves to fit in.
At Glasnaya, we look inside how real people live their social and gender roles. We tell the stories of women who might seem “weird”, “unusual”, “outstanding”, “idiots”, or “too clever.” These women do not fit the expectations of others around them, whether they live in a traditional, patriarchal society or in a feminist environment, in a town or in the countryside. And another thing: we ask each one of them to comment on a saying like “a woman’s place is in the kitchen” or “she just needs a man.”
